On acreage the concrete is rarely in one place. You have an apron by the shop, a pad where something heavy sits, a path that gets used every day and a slab nobody named, and they are all doing different work. The same base, color layer and finishing coats go down everywhere, and the anti-slip aggregate is specified area by area: heavier where boots come off a truck onto a wet apron, lighter on a path you cross barefoot in the evening. That keeps the whole property matching while still behaving differently underfoot where it needs to. It also means one visit and one crew rather than a slab at a time, which on a property your size is most of the convenience.
Preparation is where a working yard differs from a suburban one. Slabs out here tend to carry more history, so the diamond grind has more to lift: the weathered top layer, old sealer, and whatever has been spilled and left on it. Cracked, spalled and pitted areas are cut out and filled before any color goes near them. You end up with a surface that is easy to keep and does not hold onto what gets dropped on it. The edges matter more here than anywhere, because most of these slabs stop against dirt rather than against a wall. The coating is taken right to the lip and sealed down there instead of being stopped short, which is what keeps the boundary clean where the ground moves against it. We mechanically grind, profile and vacuum the concrete with diamond tooling, which takes off the weathered top layer along with any old sealer. Exterior slabs almost always carry one, and a coating laid over an existing sealer has nothing to bond to. That preparation runs under every interior floor we lay: the four layers of an epoxy floor build, in order.
Cracks, spalled edges and pitted areas are cut out, filled and ground flush. Control joints are honored rather than filled over, so the slab can still move where it was designed to move instead of cracking somewhere new.
Then the system itself: a polyaspartic base, the color layer, and two coats of UV stable polyaspartic over the top, with anti-slip aggregate broadcast in where it was specified. A polyaspartic build goes down in a day, which on a driveway is the difference between one afternoon without the car and a week of it.
