A polyaspartic base goes onto concrete that has been diamond ground, profiled and vacuumed, then the color layer, then two coats of UV stable polyaspartic to close it. Each of those is doing a job. The base is what holds on to the slab, the color is protected between layers instead of sitting exposed on top, and the finishing coats are the part your furniture and your feet actually meet.
You get to decide how it feels underfoot as well. Anti-slip aggregate goes into the topcoat wherever it is specified, so a walkway that catches the sprinklers can be given more grip than a patio you sit out on, and both still clean up with a hose. It is worth walking the space with us and saying how each part gets used, because that is what the specification is built from rather than a single finish laid everywhere. Most Mesa lots have concrete that arrived in stages, and running one finish across all of it is what makes a yard read as a single space rather than a set of separate slabs. Grinding brings every pour to the same starting point first, so the color goes onto comparable material and comes out even. That is worth having when your yard is a set of pours from three different decades.
