A Surface That Waits For You

The list of jobs waiting when you get back is what you actually care about, and a coated slab keeps it short. The surface is sealed as part of the build rather than treated afterwards, so dust and monsoon debris sit on top of it and are easy to clear off with a hose. Where the texture has been specified properly there is no grain for dirt to work into. What you walk out onto looks like the floor you left, and the afternoon you had set aside for it is yours again.

Color is doing quiet work here too. A light tone with a textured finish keeps the surface temperature down, which is what keeps a pool deck comfortable at the hour you are most likely to want it, and it is more forgiving of settled dust than a dark one. Leaving It and Coming Back to It

Concrete that sits unused still moves, and the build accounts for that whether anyone is walking on it or not. Polyaspartic stays flexible while the slab expands in the afternoon and contracts again overnight, and control joints are honored rather than filled over so that movement has somewhere to go. Preparation matters just as much on a property that stands empty, because what goes down underneath is what protects the color later. We diamond grind, profile and vacuum first, which lifts the weathered top layer and any old sealer, and cracked or spalled areas are cut out and filled before color goes anywhere near them. • UV stability. Polyaspartic holds its color in direct sun. This is the single reason we do not put an epoxy topcoat on anything outdoors: epoxy ambers and chalks within a season or two of Arizona daylight.
• Surface temperature. Color and texture change how hot a pool deck or patio gets underfoot. Lighter finishes with a broadcast texture run cooler than a dark, smooth, sealed surface, which matters more than anything else on a surface people walk on barefoot.
• Grip when wet. Anti-slip aggregate is broadcast into the topcoat on pool surrounds, entry steps and any slope that drains across a walkway. Specify it before the quote, because it changes the topcoat build rather than being added afterwards.
• Sealing against water and salt. A sealed slab stops absorbing pool water, irrigation runoff and the salt that comes with both, which is what drives spalling and the white efflorescence bloom on untreated exterior concrete.
• Oil and stain resistance. On a driveway this is the practical one. Engine oil, transmission fluid and rust marks sit on the coating instead of soaking into porous concrete where nothing lifts them out again.
