A rigid finish has nothing to give when that happens. Snowmelt finds the same low spots that rain does. If drainage needs sorting first we will say so, because a coating laid over standing water will not hold. Timing is part of the specification here rather than an afterthought. Each coat needs the concrete warm enough to cure properly, so exterior work gets booked into a milder stretch instead of being forced through in the cold, and we would rather move a date than lay resin onto a surface too cold to take it. We mechanically grind, profile and vacuum the concrete with diamond tooling, which takes off the weathered top layer along with any old sealer. Exterior slabs almost always carry one, and a coating laid over an existing sealer has nothing to bond to. Cracks, spalled edges and pitted areas are cut out, filled and ground flush. Control joints are honored rather than filled over, so the slab can still move where it was designed to move instead of cracking somewhere new.
